Beyond the Visible is a Massive Open Online Course created by Gfz Potsdam (German Research Centre for Geosciences) with EO-College and many other partner institutions.
Developing the visual language of this course, which teaches the basics of imaging spectroscopy, we wanted to keep the visuals simple and clean with soft color tones.
A hyperspectral image shows you not only a surface in 2D, but in addition, it shows many layers of information that go under the surface like the material, the temperature etc. And these images can be taken in the field, from a plane, or from a satellite.
In the intro we show an overview of the process. A ray of sun is reflected from a surface on Earth into the receiver in the satellite. This information has various layers of information that can be useful in a variety of fields.

Character Design · Background Design For scenes with the Teacher
Design of the character of the teacher, Charly, for the online course Beyond the Visible, as well as the detailed background design of the various scenes in which he appears. The character is a male teacher, depicted as both friendly and professional, embodying an approachable yet knowledgeable presence.
He is portrayed ready to enter the lab in his clean and neat outfit, symbolizing precision and care, and also suitably equipped with boots for field trips, illustrating his hands-on approach to teaching. The backgrounds are thoughtfully designed using the same green and grey tones that define the visual style of the course, ensuring a consistent and cohesive visual language throughout the entire learning experience. The scenes follow a clear progression, beginning at the library where foundational knowledge is gathered, then moving to the field to collect data firsthand, and finally culminating at the desk where careful analysis and study of the collected data take place.
